A Flavor-Fueled Cultural Showdown in St. Croix – Tart Wars centers around the beloved Crucian tart – a mini pie bursting with tropical fruit fillings. The three main varieties being Pineapple, Coconut and Guava. Tart Wars is not just a dessert competition, it’s a full-blown celebration of Crucian culture, community pride, and culinary creativity. Held annually on the Frederiksted waterfront, this vibrant event transforms the town into a festive battleground where tart bakers compete for the coveted title of “Best Tart” across classic and exotic categories. Each year, the public decide on the best overall flavor too. Have your vote counted!
HIGHLIGHTS
It’s an entertaining and vibrant day, with themed trivia, contests and branded shirts supporting the chosen ‘flavor team’. There is a passionate crew of tart supporters, community members, and cultural ambassadors. These teams embody the spirit of ‘friendly but fierce’ competition with high energy, playful rivalry, and deep pride in their chosen tart flavor. As one organizer described it, “It’s a block party for the culture.”
Starting with the conch shell-blowing ceremony, and team arrivals, expect steel pan bands, Moko Jumbies, live music performances, and plenty of vendors and taste testing opportunities. It’s an event for the whole family with a special area for children at the ‘Kidsville’ site located at Midre Cummings Park, Kidsville offers face painting, yoga, crafts, and even a petting zoo.
