2026/2027 Season Dates TBA – Celebrations expected to be on Emancipation Day (July 3rd), several days in the Summer and a full 2 week program during March each year.
Every year, St. Croix comes alive with the vibrant Folklife Festival, a celebration of the island’s rich cultural heritage. The festival showcases traditional music, dance, crafts, and culinary delights that attract locals and visitors alike. The festival takes place over multiple weeks in the early Spring and mid-Summer. During this time, festival goers can immerse themselves in the unique cultural experiences that St. Croix has to offer.

You’ll also find exhibits sponsored by local schools, youth groups, and cultural organizations, highlighting the island’s diverse heritage. In addition to the crafts and cultural exhibits, there is plenty of fun to be had for all ages. Traditional music and dance performances are a major highlight of the festival. Specifically, you can enjoy live Quelbe music and captivating dance routines that showcase the island’s vibrant culture. There are numerous interactive workshops where you can learn about traditional storytelling, basket weaving, and other cultural practices. For history enthusiasts, the historic Estate Whim Museum offers a glimpse into St. Croix’s colonial past through guided tours and special exhibits.

Date and Time: The Folklife Festival events are held throughout the year. Look out for announcements of dates and activities – Emancipation Day is July 3rd, and the large 2 week festival happens in March. Other events happen throughout the year.
Location:Â The performances, dances, and many of the main events take place in Frederiksted. For example, they can be held at the Dorch Cultural Center, or Verne I Richards Memorial Park, as well as Estate Whim.
Cost:Â The festival was created by the Ten Sleepless Knights to preserve the rich cultural legacy of the Virgin Islands, so admission is kept FREE to ensure accessibility for as many people as possible. There are always vendors selling mouth-watering local-fare, and artisans with traditional wares for sale.
